Welcome to the world of Lasonta Bynoe, a filmmaker and storyteller capturing life, truth, and transformation in NYC.
Through my docuseries, My Life Is a Movie, I explore life on the edge of vulnerability and resilience in the face of adversity, and the human stories that often go untold. I show how these moments shape who I have become today. Here, you’ll find films, reflections, and creative projects that illuminate what it means to grow, preserve, and claim your voice in a world that often overlooks those on the margins.
The story of
Lasonta Bynoe
I’m a filmmaker starring in my docuseries My Life Is a Movie where I navigate job, food, and housing insecurity in New York City. This documented work began in 2022, sparked by a moment of clarity, and the cameras never truly stopped rolling. My work shows what it means to move through the world visibly vulnerable while protecting myself from predatory men and confronting the everyday injustices.
Guided by radical self-belief and spirituality, I’ve witnessed moments of transformation that felt nothing short of miraculous. It transmuted complicated family dynamics, relationships, circumstances, and inherited ideas of stability helping to shape an identity that propelled me forward.
At its core, this work is about reclaiming my humanity as a double minority. I am often seen through labels rather than lived experiences, and it is my hope that by telling my story honestly, others feel less alone during their moments of becoming. In a society that measures worth by milestones and certainty, I have always chosen me.
In a world of power dynamics, my camera is my witness, and that can never be questioned.
